It's Not Too Late to Build Your Dream Summer Herb Garden
Bummed because summer is coming to a close and you never got to create your dream garden? We’re here to tell you… YOU STILL HAVE TIME. Believe it or not, there are some amazing options still available to you for your late summer garden that will also transition beautifully into the fall climate. Let’s not waste anymore time and jump right in —
MINT
There are endless ways to incorporate mint into your kitchen. We often associate this flavor with the holidays, but mint can also be a refreshing late summer herb. Here are some of our favorite ways to utilize it:
Add some mint into your morning coffee
Mint mojitos anyone?
Add it into your ice molds for instant mint-infused water
CILANTRO
You either love cilantro, or you think it tastes like soap. If you’re like us, you’re a big fan of this herb. Cilantro is a showstopper in a variety of savory dishes ranging from soups tacos.
ROSEMARY
Rosemary is one of those that you may not reach for daily, but it’s definitely convenient to have in your garden for when your recipe calls for it. When used, it’s an delightful aromatic herb for the summertime. Our favorite way to cook with rosemary is to use it as a meat seasoning.
GPL Tip: Make rosemary infused oil the next time you cook with this herb for some additional pizzazz. Sauté some rosemary for a few minutes before adding those sprigs into your olive oil bottle.
BASIL
Basil is truly a kitchen staple. The foundation of a strong pesto, the perfect pizza garnish, a refreshing salad addition. What’s not to love about Miss Basil? With it delivering a strong savory palette, it’s also a pleasantly unexpected ice cream flavor. Here’s a great recipe if you’re brave enough to try it.
OREGANO
Did you know that Oregano is abundant goodies such as iron, manganese, calcium (just to name a few)? It’s a great herb to add into fatty dishes, but also a great source of antioxidants! We love a diverse herb.
thyme
We like to call thyme the essence of summertime. It’s a subtle, delightful addition to savory spreads. This is also a year-round seasoning that highlights the flavors in meats, breads, and potatoes (our favorite).
